Tranquilizers and antidepressants are a different class of drugs. Tranquilizers make people more calm whereas antidepressants are used to treat depressions . Without proper medical diagnosis it can be very tough to understand differences between symptoms and side effects and conditions for depression and anxiety.

In general antidepressants may take longer to work on depression. Also when they are stopped it may take much longer for their effects to fade away. Many moderns antidepressants may not make people feel drowsy like Tranquilizers.

Use extreme caution and when taking Tranquilizers or antidepressants. Never take these class of drugs without proper prescription.

Whenever you want to calm or soothe your nerves, you may have taken chamomile tea, or have used other herbal remedies. However there are cases when you may need to seek medical treatment. Tranquilizers have been around since 1960. In early days, chlordiazepoxide belonging to a group of tranquilizers called benzodiazepines was used. They were also referred to as benzos. Earlier there was no data about the safety that was available and these were wrongly thought as being safe and effective for wide category of problems. One of the major problems with these medicines was dependence.

A common side effect of tranquilizers is a feeling of slowness. They may reduce anxiety, but may slow the responses and cause sedative effects. Some of these medicines may also affect alertness and coordination. These medicines should not be used when you are operating machinery or driving.

Additional side effects may be depression and an additional treatment with antidepressants may be necessary. It can become very complex for an ordinary person to sort out the symptoms and side effects and real problems if you start taking combinations of these drugs.
